All porn pics and vids are called adult content (or porn content or simply content). Also content can be games, stories, mobile stuff, but right now we'll focus on XXX pics and vids. There must be at least two people for content producing: one who shoots and one who is being shot. Everybody can shoot and be shot in porn since he/she is 18 yo and if it's legal in his/her country or state. The Industry lives by US law and its Title 18, Section 2257 (since June, 2005), which basically says that if anybody displays adult content on a website, then he has to have legal documentation showing that models are of legal age and they give consent to display images and videos w/ them on the website. Though each country may have its own regulations the Industry's standard is 2257 record. But other countries try to regulate the Industry too. E.g. Germany bans many sites each year from Google.DE (Google.DE needs to pull sites, which special German committee pulls out of search results pages) and restricts porn hosts on servers in Germany. Following 2257 Section illegal porn is porn w/ pre-eighteen models (so called 'child porn') or content w/o appropriate documents (copy of government issued ID and assigned Models Release).
Another part of illegal porn is content w/o documents, in other words, stolen content. This includes torrents, tubes, warez portals, filesharings, etc. I understand that it's also the fault of people, which pissed the Industry off from inside, but I hope one day we will stop both Industry killers and content thieves. The Internet will become more formal and regulated, and less like the Wild West. From time to time I read news about arrests of whole content sharing teams (from trackers, warez portals, etc) w/ 8-12 years jail terms. I hope that one day people will understand, that porn is not just 5 min of fucking, but it's a job of many people and they need to be paid for it like we all are for our jobs.
The unit of porn for photos is set and scene or clip for videos. For some niches like adult art or selfmade it can be even only 1 photo, but usually set is a series of photos with the beginning and the end. For softcore niches it may be some intro (watching TV, cleaning room, eating in the kitchen), dressing out, fingering or playing w/ toys. A hardcore set starts when they accidently meet each other and ends when they get married (not always though ). There's no strict difference between a video clip and a movie (I'd like there to be), but a movie always has some feature, not just masturbation or hardcore scene.
You may have noticed that some paysites have unique content which can be found only there and the same pics and vids can be found on a few sites or even around a dozen of them. The deal is in the type of license by which the paysite buys content. Or to be more exact, the license means how many times the content can be sold. A exclusive license; A current picture set or video clip are sold only once for one owner. The owner can display it or he can also place copies of that content over other sites he operates.
Non-exclusive license has no limitations for sales/buys amounts. The content provider is free to sell photos and videos by this license as many times to as many other paysites would be interested in it.
Semi-excluvise license limits the number of sells up to 3-5. This is caused by different approaches to their business by content providers and paysites owners. Some buy just exclusive, because they believe that it will attract members more. Usually they need to set a bigger sign up price (usually $30-35) to be able to pay for that content. Those who buy only non-exclusive licenses usually suggest huge amounts of content by lower price as much as $20-30. Some guys just mix all types of licenses to get content that they would like to present their members. I really like sites which shoot content themselves or are operated by the playmates significant other. Also some people buy exclusive license for model, which means that content w/ him/her would be shot once and only for one paysite. Shootings for others are possible after some long period of time, e.g. a year or two, or even more. The guaranty, that you guys will see this girl or boy only on one site.

We can speak too about geographical origin of porn.

=> USA strongly dominate the market
=> Japan, like other industriel domain, product a lot but most for its internal market
=> eastern Europe this lot of performer has quite strong industry. May be very strong company can emerge from these countries (like Eromaxx or 21 century) and can be one of world leaders

As for me other country has quite weak porn industrie. In which we can notice Germany, France and Italy who has some porn company but quite small comparated which US ones (excepting Marc Dorcel for France and P. Thomson (GGG)for Germany)

A thing that would be interesting to know is how much are the girls paid for doing a scene or a photoshot in a site.

For instance, how much for a bangbus scene or big tits patrol scene.
